Primary Icon (the block "A")

Orginially designed as an athletics identifier, the icon has developed significant recognition value, and may be used to identify the university in less formal media, when placed in close proximity to the words "Appalachian" or "Appalachian State University." Use of the term "Appalachian State" is restricted to Athletics only.

Usage guidelines

  • The icon should be used when a bolder, more informal look is desired, particularly by student groups and alumni organizations.
  • The icon is a registered trademark. The ® symbol must be applied when printed on merchandise.
  • The icon must be reproduced from official artwork.
  • The letterforms for the icon have been drawn specifically for the university; therefore you cannot substitute a typeface for them.
  • The icon can be produced in variation of  three spot colors (Black, Pantone 116C, Pantone 429C),  two spot colors (Black and Pantone 116C),  and as black and white.
